But here’s a little contrarian framework for thinking about the naturally lived human experience in stress that has never been taught to us:
Stress isn’t your enemy. It’s your body’s energy.
And trick is learning how to work with it, instead of being run ragged by it.

The Stress Myth That’s Quietly Hurting Millions
For decades, we’ve been told that stress is toxic—that it’s something to avoid, suppress, or outrun. But research says otherwise.
In one famous study, 1 people who experienced high levels of stress had a 43% higher risk of dying—but only if they believed stress was harmful.
Those who saw their stress as a normal human response? They lived longer than people who reported low stress.
So it’s not just the stress itself that hurts us. It’s what we believe about it. (Ends up we’ll need stress relief from our stress beliefs!)
When you see stress as energy—raw fuel from your body trying to help you rise to the moment—you start to reclaim your power.
That tightness in your chest? That’s adrenaline mobilizing your focus.
That racing pulse? That’s your heart saying, “Let’s go.”
A Simple Reframe That Changes Everything
Here’s a mindset shift I teach to participants inside my STRESS Buster sessions:
When stress shows up, instead of telling yourself “Relax, calm down, chill,”
Change what you say about stress to: “I’m excited. My body is gearing up to help me.”
Sounds strange, right?
But this small language shift rewires your brain to interpret those physical sensations differently.
You go from threat to readiness.
From panic to purpos2e.
From stressed to stress relief.
It’s not denial—it’s re-direction.
You’re training your brain to use stress as a signal, not a siren.
Step One: Awareness – Feel It, Don’t Fight It
Stress has a funny way of sneaking up on us.
We power through, ignore the signs, and wonder why our minds and bodies revolt later.
So before you can fix it, you gotta acknowledge it….you gotta feel it.
Try this:
Complete this sentence—
“When I feel ____________, I know I’m experiencing stress.”
Maybe it’s tension in your shoulders. Maybe it’s the fog that rolls in after too many to-do lists.
Whatever your cue is, recognizing it early is the first step to bringing your body back to balance.
Step Two: Address It-Don’t Let It Leak
Avoiding stress is like ignoring a leaky roof.
You might not notice the damage right away, but over time, the cracks widen and the repair costs skyrocket.
Once you notice where the stress lives in your body, the key is to tend to it before it floods your system.
That’s where hypnosis, breathwork, and mind-body practices come in. These wellness modalities help you release the charge, regulate your nervous system, and restore clarity—so you can move through challenges with calm confidence instead of chronic tension. Stress relief hypnosis is tremendously popular because people love being guided into relaxation and feeling calm. And it blows their minds because they weren’t sure they were ever going to get stress relief.
Step Three: Embrace Incremental Success
When we’re overwhelmed, it’s easy to freeze. The list feels too long, the pressure too heavy, and so we do… nothing.
Enter what I call Incremental Success—the science-backed sweet spot between comfort and chaos.
Ask yourself:
“What’s the next smallest thing I can do?”
Not the whole mountain—just the next step.
Because progress (not perfection) signals to your brain, “I’m safe, I’m capable, I’ve got this.”
And that’s the moment stress starts to melt into flow (like snow melting to water hydrating and nourishing the grounds down the mountain sides, and into the streams sustaining the bustling town down below).
Why These Shifts Work (and Why They Matter)
Your brain and body are constantly in conversation. When your thoughts scream “danger,” your body floods you with survival hormones. But when your thoughts whisper “I can handle this,” the body follows suit.
The result?
Your pulse steadies. Your breath deepens. Your mind clears. You un-tense!
And suddenly, that stress energy transforms from chaos to catalyst. You become the calm in the storm—not because life stopped being stressful, but because you stopped being at war with it.
The Bigger Picture: Meaning Makes It Manageable
One of my favorite exercises with clients is reframing stress through meaning.
Try this:
“I [do this stressful thing] because I value [something important to me].”
For example:
“I aim to set and confirm expectations before participating in meetings because I value my time and efficiency.”
“I prepare these presentations because I value excellence and impact.”
“I set boundaries because I value peace.”
“I take care of my team because I value connection and growth.”
See how different that feels?
You’re no longer drowning in stress—you’re swimming in purpose.
Meaning turns struggle into momentum.
